As I begin to write this new blog, I do not want anybody to be put off by the title. Except for what I will write about man’s role in marriage everything else applies to everybody. I acknowledge Godly women for I lived with one for over 53 years. However, it is not one person being better than another, but because I am a man I feel more comfortable directing my comments and observations to men. In this first blog, I want to mainly concentrate on the importance of God’s word governing the way that I live and understand life. Also, I want to clarify at the beginning that what I say is not intended to be judgemental about other people, for I can only write about what I have been challenged by the Holy Spirit. I have used Proverbs 14:12 as a starting theme which says: “There is a way that seems right to a man but its end is the way of death”. Firstly, I want to state the obvious, the world in which we live and its standards are not Godly. This is not the first time this has happened, we read in the bible how God rescued the Children of Israel from Egypt and gave them the Promised Land to live in. They were constantly reminded of two things firstly, they were not to depart from obeying God’s law, and secondly, they were not to mix with the non-jews and live by their ungodly customs. They ignored God’s way and worshipped false gods which caused them to be taken captive and only thousands of years later in 1948 did they start to return to their homeland. Today they still do not have all the land that God first gave them, all because they did not obey the word of God. To refresh our understanding I want to quote a few verses for us to consider. 2 Timothy 16-17 NLT “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”.Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. James 1:22. “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your self”. Psalm 119:11 “Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you”. Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. Psalm 119:130 “The entrance of your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple”. Jesus taught in Matthew 7:24-25 that when you obey His word it builds a strong foundation in your life that will withstand all the storms of life. There is one important truth we need to know – our experiences do not either support or deny the word of God, God’s word is true always in every situation, and the significance of God’s word should never be underestimated. Jesus gave the perfect example of this in the wilderness, every time He was tempted He defeated the temptation by the truth of God’s word. I am challenged daily not to be sidetracked and start living to please myself instead of living by God’s word. In the next blog, I will start to look at the creation of man and remind everyone of the ungodly influence that exists in the world today.
We always need scriptures to support what we want to say and not just one as we can change meaning with one scripture.
