I enjoy New Year’s Day because I like to use special days to focus and refocus my attention on God. Unfortunately, at times it is so easy to get so busy and forget the importance of our relationship with God. In my last blog, I highlighted some of the experiences of the greatness of God we the church saw last year. In preparation for this blog, I felt impressed to use a certain scripture which I dismissed because in the past I had not seen the scripture fulfilled. On close examination, I realised the reason for that was because of my false expectation of the scripture. Now I will try to explain the significance of the verse, the verse is Isaiah 43:19 which says: “Behold I will do a new (Fresh) thing, now it shall spring forth, shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert “.The verse starts with a very significant statement ‘Behold’ – what do you see? This is so critical for it determines the outcome, sadly at times it is so easy to hear but not see! It is time to discipline ourselves to see what God is doing and be controlled(influenced) by it. David knew the importance of this because he said in Psalm 101:3 “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes”. It is so good to see what the Lord has done in our lives and keep telling other people about it. Understanding the importance of seeing what God is doing has taken me a long time to grasp and I will not allow other things to become more important to me. Next, the verse says that “God will do a new thing” and this is where my understanding of the verse was wrong. I thought that the word new meant different and that was completely wrong. The word new is more correctly translated as ‘Fresh” and that is what God wants to do in our lives, the Children of Israel got new manna every morning it was not different but fresh. God wants us to be fresh in our experience with Him all the time. It does not need to be different but fresh. God wants us to be fresh with Him all the time, not what He did some time ago. It is so important to keep fresh with our Lord! The next thing the verse says is ‘It shall spring forth’ This suggests that it is already inside of us and waiting for an opportunity to manifest itself. I believe that we will see many changed lives this year, the verse goes on to say “Shall you not know it” When the light is turned on everyone can see it you do not have to do anything except allow your light to shine. The final thing is in Bible times a desert was described as “A fertile place without water”, when the water comes it produces fruit. I see the freshness of God’s presence increasing and will not be surprised that His presence will come with greater intensity and that lives will be forever changed. I believe that there will be greater conviction in the meetings and there will be many first-time born-again people. However, I believe the greatest number of people changed will be people who once used to love the Lord but allowed circumstances to affect them and they grew cold and stopped going to church. Last year we saw a great number of children impacted by God and I believe this will continue to happen in a greater measure this year. Last year the Youth Group was impacted by the Holy Spirit and I believe this will continue, Hill Top will again be a fruitful time in God. There are many more things I could say but we need to understand what we are experiencing is only the beginning of a move of God in the Church and when we look back over 2024 we will be amazed at what the Lord has done!
