In a world where there is so much bad news, it is so important that we keep refreshing ourselves with the truth of God’s word. It is so good to remember that God’s mercies are new every morning and that He is a faithful God. This is why we must slow down and set apart some time to keep our love for our Saviour fresh and rewarding all the time. This is what David is doing in this Psalm, Verse 2 says: “I will be glad and rejoice in you, I will sing praise to your name, O most high “. Again it is so good to be reminded of David’s attitude and choice that he made. He is not unique because everyone who is born again can and should make the same decision ‘I Will’. It is so easy at times to sit on the fence and be overcome by the routine of life. This is something that I have learned especially the last ten years living without my precious wife. She was a person who always had something and always had a goal for the future, and I was prepared to just coast along and live day by day. However, when Barbara went to heaven, I made the decision that I would use my time to seek the Lord and that was the best decision I have made. Take note of what David chose to do, firstly, “I will be glad and rejoice in you”, I am reminded of the words of a hymn ‘Count your blessings name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!’. David chose to be glad in his God, he never forgot that God called him when he was young and insignificant in his family. You may remember that when Samuel came to his father Jesse and asked him to show him his sons, David was not considered because he was looking after the sheep. Over the years I have never considered myself good enough to be used by God but He has in many outstanding ways. This should be an encouragement to everyone, all God desires is that we be obedient and available for Him to use. When you are glad about Jesus it is so easy to rejoice in your relationship with Him. When you keep rejoicing in the Lord you become pleasant to talk to. Next, David chose to sing praises to his God, singing about the goodness of God in your life brings pleasure and stability in your life. I have a memory stick that has about 90 CDs on it and the player is set at random mode so that there is a background sound of praises to God and from time to time I join in with the singing. Verse 3 says:” When my enemies turn back, they fall and perish in your presence “. Davi as King defeated so many enemies of Israel, although it would have been easy for him to take credit for the victory. But he chose to give God all the praise for the victory, that is why he is called “A man after God’s heart”, he believed that the victory came because of the presence of the Lord in his life. The significance of God’s presence in our lives should never be taken lightly. David reminds us that the enemy is defeated by God’s presence, this is a decision that we must make regularly to live in God’s presence. When we do this, while at times we may not be aware of situations, we can take comfort because that is what is happening, The peace we have every day stems from living in His presence.
